Do you play Scrabble at all? I have to say I'm a big fan, and we play it at school quite regularly. It's good on a lot of levels, both for improving spelling and vocabularly; for encouraging turn-taking and social interaction; but most of all for having a good laugh. Like this afternoon...
We play 'proper' Scrabble, as in by the rules and quite strictly; with no slang or abbreviations and the words having to appear in out ancient Chambers' dictionary if there is even the hint of dispute.
There were three of us playing, me and two teenage boys. One of the boys had the P and the W and, quite rightly, wanted to maximise the points scoring by banging them on the coloured squares. The other boy was lost in thought.
It came to his turn and he'd been shuffling the seven tiles for a while. I asked him if he needed help (we all help each other, all the while trying to make sure we win) but he said not as he had a good idea. What's that, asked the other boy.
Chronic diarrhoea.
Good luck with that...
Nobody will play Scrabble with me other than my brother and best friend - so I only get in a few games a year, unfortunately. You're lucky to get in some regular games even though the competition might not be fierce.
(PS Was he thinking of the five letter slang do you think?)

That's not fair ! What five letter slang ?
( I don't get to discuss bodily functions with people on a regular basis any more , now I've retired ... well , not yet anyway )

There's a 6th former (he's very, very good)and another member of staff who also play with us. It gets very intense and competitive. I love it!!

The one that rhymes with nits?
Funny how kids like to discuss these things isn't it? One of 'my' 15 year old boys gives me daily updates of the state of his routine.
