We went to Lincoln yesterday. I've been before but it was many years ago, before the girls were even born. This time we wanted to look at the university and No1 was meeting a friend who lives there. It's about a two hour drive, normally. But I don't think I've ever driven anywhere where so many roads were closed and diversions in place. Very frustrating and such a waste of time and petrol.
No2 and I arrived at the uni to find, serendipitously, that there was an open day on and we were welcome to go on a full tour. The campus is right by the river and had a nice, cosmopolitan feel to it. We were impressed with what we saw, despite (or maybe because) of all the new building work going on.
The city itself is a real mix of old and new. Although it had been raining heavily when we set off it turned out to be a very warm day in the end. We ate on the waterfront and it felt like being abroad, the sun beating down on us, swans gliding past and music in the background.
Nice shops, plenty of restaurants, history: a good day out. Very photogenic as well!
I tell my youngest I am expecting niche shops and good architecture to be on the list when we start looking at universities in a couple of years! Looks like you found it in Lincoln.

Lincoln is my favourite city, so beautiful and not too large. Thanks for the pictures, they take me back...

It does look nice. I especially like the last photo of the spiral staircase - great capture, as they say...

Well worth a day out, Anne, but take your hiking boots or Nordic poles for all the hills!

There's plenty to occupy the amateur photographer, and that's not including the castle and cathedral.

It really is lovely, isn't it? I won't leave it so long again til another visit.

Well, youngest liked the place a lot. Very important for her, I think. The course looks good as well, but in the end it's her decision.

Did you find any of those delicious biscuits with the little bumps on, and wear green? Just for the full heritage experience of course.
