We break up at the end of today for the Easter holiday and in traditional style I've made chocolate nests to take in. Even the super cool kids can't resist.
As there's been no real time to speak of in the run up I haven't done much new in the way of decoration. No use even looking for some pussy willow as nothing at all is out yet here and I feel a bit strange about buying some, seems wrong. We'll see. I have got daffs though.
Maybe the decorating thing has started to get out of hand in general, what do you think? It used to be enough to do it at Christmas but now there seems to be an Occasion every few weeks. My family has always sent Easter cards (and my Grandma sent palm crosses) but that and a simnel cake was always it. When the girls were small we used to go out with a large group of friends to the woods and have an egg rolling competition. The children (and some adults...) decorated the eggs beforehand and the assorted dogs ate most of them after the roll, and some during it.
I think for me Easter signifies the start of a fresh new year, more than actual New Year does. This year is a bit odd, of course, but it's by no means the first time it's been snowy.
I'll leave you with a picture (taken by Jane Eardley) of what some of the local roads look like...
