I went out to put some stuff into the compost bin last night and had a surprise. It's the static compost bin, not the green bin that gets collected. The surprise? Bees are shacked up in there and they were zizzing away when I opened the lid.
Obviously I went straight to Google to discover firstly that it's not unusual and also that it is a Good Thing or a Bad Thing depending what article you read...
The upshot is that nothing will be happening unless they do something mad like swarm. I'll leave them to it and have a peep every now and again, they seem quite mild at the moment. There's been a wasps' nest outside the back door for five years now and I hardly see them, they like a quiet life.
They won't last the winter, according to Google, though the queen might make it. So maybe then will be the time to do something... Advice from any bee keepers out there very welcome!
