I could have named the post 'Goosegrass' or 'Galium aparine', but hell, I like to live dangerously.
We have this growing in swathes in both the front and back gardens and it's in the woods nearby. I like to pull it out and let it all stick together in big clumps. Of course the little burrs get stuck to everything, especially at this time of year.
The dogs usually have a decent sprinkling of it over them, and that's why it's virtually impossible to eradicate. Someone or other always brings a bit back. When the girls were small we always called it Sticky Buds and they liked picking them off everything.
I didn't know it was a coffee substitute, though. Maybe, in the name of blog-research, I'll have a go at roasting some and share my findings. In fact, if you have clicked on the link, you'll realise it's an invaluable weed to have in the garden. Thank goodness we are well stocked...
