It's the wells derssing and Opera Festival here at the moment. I wrote about it last year and this is the well at St Anne's decorated for the 100th anniversary of Guiding.
Later today there will be the carnival parade. I shall be going to watch and take photos, but they are generally the same each year. At least, I hope there will be a parade but the weather has been inclement to say the least. We have had days and nights of torrential rain. The sort known as 'stair-rods' round here, it comes straight down the chimney bringing soot with it.
There has been thunder and lightning, on Wednesday evening we couldn't even see the house across the road. The pond is almost overflowing, when only a fortnight ago we had to buy pond conditioner so we could top it up with tap water it was so low.
The roads are treacherous because of water and the debris it has dragged from gardens. The drains have flooded in several places, and there's much standing water as well...
...which is not amusing for pedestrians when cars belt through it, soaking them. We're not going to flood being over 1100 feet above sea level, but it's a pain all the same.
There's still one week left of school before we break up for the six weeks' holiday. And we have two sports days to get through at my school, it won't be much fun if it's tipping it down.
Can we have our summer back please...
