First of all thank you so much for all the lovely birthday wishes yesterday. I'll update you on all of that later, and I'll let you know who won the blogiversary giveaway as well...but today's the day I share with you something I mentioned a couple of days ago...
I bought this yarn a while ago with something very specific in mind. Then I got chatting to Emily of Mousy Brown's House about the project and asked if she fancied hosting a joint Knit (or crochet) Along. She did, and we've had our heads together for a few weeks organising it.
We've decided to call it String-a-Long 2010. The button in the sidebar will take you to the Flickr page Emily has set up, where all the group members can post pictures- it's so easy to join. There's also a typelist of all the members underneath it so you can contact each other for tips or moral support...
Pictures of what? Of their string bags of course. Because that's the object-to knit or crochet a re-useable string bag. For anyone taking part in the One small change project it fits in quite neatly...or maybe you've wanted to join and this will be the prompt!
The sign up begins today. Just send me your details- name, blog (if you have one, but it's not important), which pattern you are going to do, and whether you're happy to help other people if they have any problems.
You can choose a pattern of your own or have a look at the following for some inspiration and instructions...here, here (this is the one I'm going to make) here, here and if you are feeling vintage try this one. There are hundreds on the internet so if you don't like the look of any of these do just pick another, or make one up.
The idea is to sign up before the 28th February and start the bag on the 1st of March, then we'll all post the final reveal pictures on the 29th March. (If anyone wants to email pictures to me I'm more than happy to post them on Flickr for them.) We will have regular check-ins on each Monday between the 1st and 21st.
So to summarise....
- Sign up by sending me your details
- Choose a pattern and send me the link if there is one
- Get your yarn ready for the 1st March
- Join the Flickr group- you do not need a blog to be able to do this
- Get stringing
If you'd like to put the button on you sidebar to link to the Flickr group please feel free...
There's a fantastic tutorial here if you've never done a button before .
I really do hope you'll join Emily and me in this bit of useful fun. I have a feeling the bags may prove addictive and really good for gifts as well.
If anything is unclear please let me know, and remember...this is all for fun, it doesn't matter how good you are at knitting or crochet, and there'll always be someone to answer your query (or at least have a good go!).
